Editorial standards
The rules every District Times article follows before it is published.
Last updated
Accountability
- Every article is signed. Readers can see who reported and wrote each story.
- Every article is dated. We show the real date of publication and, when an article changes in a substantive way, the date it was updated.
- Ownership is disclosed. District Times is published by Atlas Media Network, LLC. Ownership is stated on every page and on our About us page.
Verification
- We verify facts with primary sources whenever they exist: official records, court filings, legislation, agency data, budgets and on-the-record statements.
- Every article lists its sources with links, so readers can check our work.
- If a fact cannot be confirmed, we say so plainly or leave it out. We do not present unconfirmed claims as fact.
- We clearly distinguish news reporting from opinion and analysis.
Elections and voting
When we report on voting or elections, we direct readers to official sources for registration, deadlines, polling places and results: vote.gov and the District of Columbia Board of Elections. Readers outside the District should consult their own state or local election authority.
Images
Photographs and illustrations are credited. We do not alter news photographs in ways that change their meaning, and we do not publish synthetic images as if they were photographs of real events.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and transparently. See our corrections policy.
